Anthony Bourdain

Bourdain is my new hero.  Really.  Here is my reasoning: First, like Harrison Ford, this guy ain’t no spring chicken, but he is, at least for his life, more relevant than ever.  He stated out in a kitchen, and as much as you do see glamorous chefs on TV, the kitchen life is no picnic.  So, he uses his wit and writes a little book, which takes off, surprise to him as much as anyone else I am sure,  and then uses all of that to make a really cool career. All well and good, right? Awesome it is.  Still, the thing I love most about Bourdain?  He eats for a living, yes, thats cool too, but the real thing?  He doesn’t pull punches. He says what he likes, politics be damned! I read about his comments regarding Sandra Lee, and it was hilarious.   He says he came to face with pure evil, and noted the ecto-plasmic slime left on his shirt. And, he gets to really rip on Rachel Ray, one of televisions “chosen ones”.   See, most people would be afraid to say they don’t like Rachel Ray or Oprah, since they are powerful women.  It’d be like a beer guy, me, for example, slamming someone like Garrett Oliver. It would not go well.  Just to get this straight, I totally love Brooklyn Brewery and most all of their products, so that was just for an example.  If I wanted to bash a brewery, it’d be Sherwood Forest cause their beer truly does suck.  Actually, I can’t believe how bad their beer really is, and yet I do see it on tap about town. Go figure.  At least, whether you believe it or not, Budweiser is good at what it is trying to be.  Sherwood Forest Pale ale is truly horrible. How does that happen?
